(ALLENTOWN, PA) The Bar Association of Lehigh County in conjunction with the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation is pleased to announce a $15,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation to promote the dangers and legal implications of cell phone usage while operating a motor vehicle.
The organizations will collaborate once again to create a multi-media presentation, DVD Production and Website, entitled Not Behind The Wheel. This electronic media will then be distributed to all middle schools throughout the Greater Lehigh Valley. It is expected to reach over 12,000 students.
"Texting while driving can wait, it's not worth it, in the few seconds it takes to look down and send your text, next thing you know somebody has pulled out in front of you, or stopped in front of you. Innocent lives are at stake" noted Bar Association of Lehigh County Executive Director Dan LaBert. “We must give kids, parents and educators the tools they need to understand safe use of cell phones.”
"Verizon is proud to improve the quality of life for youth and families in the Lehigh Valley by empowering the community with innovative tools and resources," said Daniel J. Reavy, Director of External Affairs for Verizon Pennsylvania. "We're investing in programs, such as our partnership with the Bar Association of Lehigh County, to reach every type of learner across the lifespan and to touch people's lives by focusing on education, health and family safety in the 21st century. We understand that education does not begin or end in the classroom. Visit www.thinkfinity.org to learn more."
The Bar Association of Lehigh County, Verizon Foundation and Lehigh Valley Community Foundation teamed up in Spring 2010 and produced an Emmy Award Nominated video entitled OneFace.me. OneFace addressed the issues of cyber safety during use of social media.
